Pilar Chapa

Latino Education Coalition Coordinator

Campaign and advocacy veteran Pilar Chapa comes to CLLARO after having served as Colorado State Director for Bernie Sanders’ 2020 Presidential campaign and as Executive Director of the Colorado Democratic Party. 

 

Pilar is an immigrant and the daughter of immigrants. She was born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, and came to the U.S. as a baby.  Although she did not become a U.S. citizen until 2017, Pilar has worked and advocated for progressive issues including Immigration Reform, Animal Welfare, Environmental Protection, and Healthcare. She has also worked to elect strong progressive candidates who share her values.

 

Her advocacy work includes the Affordable Care Act, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013, and Communications and Outreach Director for ProgressNow Colorado.  

 

Her campaign work includes the 2020 Presidential run for Bernie Sanders,  President Obama’s re-election campaign, a Congressional race in Colorado’s 6th congressional district, and a local county race.

 

Prior to her career shift to politics, Pilar served as Communications Director for Easter Seals Colorado, and as Director at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center in San Antonio, Texas.
