CAPITOL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Fellows receive intensive training in legislative process, procedures, and selected public policy problems. Each fellow is placed in the office of a Colorado state legislator or other public policymakers who have volunteered to mentor and supervise them. Fellows research public policy and legislative issues for their legislator, 20 hours per week throughout the five-month regular Session of the Colorado General Assembly. Fellows are paid a stipend, and can sometimes receive academic credit as well. Fellowships typically offer opportunities to observe or participate in legislative committee hearings, meet with constituents, work with Capitol legislative service agencies, interact with community advocates and lobbyists concerned about current bills, and related activities in the Colorado state capitol building.

Upon completing the program in May, fellows are invited to join a national network of current and past CLLARO Capitol Fellows. The network facilitates information sharing and mutual support for policy change during fellows’ subsequent careers.
