CLLARO is committed to a complete and accurate census count for Colorado. We are working hard to ensure that the entire Latino community in Colorado is counted fully. Historically, Latinos are undercounted in the decennial census. Together, we can ensure that Colorado Latinos are counted in 2020.

An accurate census count helps support our communities! Census data are used to help fund programs that help our community. About 300 federal assistance programs accounting for more than $800 billion annually depend on the Decennial Census count for their allocation of funds. These programs include:

  • Head Start

  • The Special Supplemental Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

  • The Supplemental Nutrition Program (SNAP)

  • Federal Pell Grant Program

  • The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

  • Medical Assistance Program (Medicaid, children only)

Local nonprofits also rely on census population data to know what services are needed and where those services should be located.

CLLARO has received financial support from the Next Fifty Initiative to provide census outreach to Latino older adults living in Denver, Adams, Arapahoe, Jefferson, and Weld counties. Older adults are considered a hard to count population in Colorado. In addition to encouraging older adults in Colorado to participate in the 2020 Census, CLLARO is also encouraging all Latinos throughout Colorado to get counted. CLLARO is partnering with community organizations and leaders to spread census awareness and encourage census participation.

CLLARO is available as a community resource. We are here to answer any questions you might have about the census. We also have resources to share. Please contact us if you would like for CLLARO staff to speak to your group about census participation.
